Ret paladin gearing has gotten much easier since the release of Wrath of the Lich King. Essentially,
you will be looking for plate armor with similar stats to a death knight or a fury/arms warrior.
You may also want to look at mail armor if it has better overall stats then what you are currently
wearing. Keep in mind that the armor rating itself doesn’t mean very much to you. Ideally, you won’t
take much physical damage. If you are, you are probably going to die anyway and a few thousand extra
armor points is not going to save you.
Here are the stats you should look for in priority order:
Strength
Hit Rating - up to a cap of of 262 Hit Rating (8%)
Expertise Rating - up to a cap of 214 Expertise Rating (26 Expertise, 6.5%)
Critical Strike Rating
Agility
Attack Power
Haste
Armor Penetration
Stamina
Once you start getting into tier 7+ gear sets, you probably won’t have to worry about anything past haste.
